Recycling Project a Winner

Last Saturday SCI Woburn was involved in a very innovative and successful recycling project.  Residents brought items with CRT tubes like computer monitors, TVs, and other appliances to a local elementary school for recycling.  Typically it costs $30 to recycle these items as part of regular trash pickup; for this event, people only had to pay $5 or $10, depending on the item.  It gets better--the fees paid for this recycling benefitted SCI!

So this event was a real winner.  It encouraged recycling by reducing the costs, the materials will be reused by the recycling company we worked with, and it raised money for a good community organization.  Volunteers from the Woburn Youth Council and the Woburn Residents Environmental Network were on hand to make the day a success.

This recycling event, the brainchild of Woburn resident Paul Medeiros, will take place every 3 months, with the funds going to a different local nonprofit each time.
