Actor promotes civics education
Actor Richard Dreyfuss has been vigorously promoting civics education recently, appearing on ABC's Real Time with Bill Maher and lecturing on civics at Oxford University in England. In December, the actor returned to Martha's Vineyard (where the film Jaws, in which the actor starred, was shot) to speak with a group of educators about the importance of civics education.
In today's Boston Globe, there is a long article on Dreyfuss's new push for civics education. "Civics is boring, but it doesn't have to be," Dreyfuss tells the paper. "We need to make it the most exciting hour of the school day."
Civics education was also one of the priorities that came out of the Civic Engagement Working Group reports--so it seems like Massachusetts is a good place for Dreyfuss to be promoting civics education right now.
